Legend of the guardians: The owls of ga’hoole

The legend of the guardians is an animated film about owls. The base of the story is that some owlets have been kidnapped by some evil owls and brainwashed into soldiers. Two of the owlets work out when the brainwashing is happening and look away then escape to tell the protectors of the land. After a while they go fight evil owls and win.

There were multiple different owls in this film which all had different flying and walking styles. The main owl was a barn owl that walks with some kind of elegance. But their take off seems to be a bit clumsy but when in flight they take huge flaps of their wings and are very silent.

Emotional effectiveness
The film is very successful in drawing you in. Each owl has different personalities- evil owls, the guardians etc. The young owl is very appealing. The scenes where he learns to fly are really effective. His learning to fly shows a development, a learning curve; this corresponds to a baby learning to crawl and walk. So the viewer bonds with the owl.

Colour, modelling, rigging and texture

This is very close to being a real owl, except that it talks. It flies like a real owl. Its wingspan and proportions are realistic. The makers actually brought real owls in to the studio when the dialogue was being recorded.
