Downloadable Content (DLC)

Recently there has been an increase in season passes for DLC which has made me think, is DLC good for a game or is it bad. Season passes are a onetime payment with a varying value of money from 15-25 in which they will give multiple DLC packs with the purchase and save players money on that game. The companies that use season passes the most seem to be the bigger ones that release multiple triple a (AAA) titles a year and use it as away to gain more income from an older game. Small companies and indie developers don’t have such pleasure because they don’t have enough people to do all the work for the DLC’s.

I think some of the DLC’s that are released help games by adding new content to them and enhancing gaming experiences. If a DLC adds new items, classes and story that can change the game but does not ruin it, then it’s a good piece of DLC. Example Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening added at least an extra 8hours game play to Dragon Age, extended the story, added new characters, monsters, and items was overall a good piece of DLC. But some DLC like Map pack should have been in the game when the game got released unless they were community made maps or add extra things to the games.
